Al,

 

Congrats on getting things together for the link.   A static IP is not needed to connect to the network, as all of the sectors are configured to provide DHCP up on connect.  Once you have successfully connected and things are the way you want them, it is possible to setup a DHCP reservation for you out of the pool to maintain the same address at the EOC if desired.

 

Go for it and give a shout if you have other questions.  The IRC channel is a good resource as well.

Hello

 

Alan, AC7MX has been helping us plan a node at the Vashon EOC.  We have the dish and have read your client node configuration page.  

 

He mentioned we would need a static IP address.  How do we go about acquiring that and what else might we need to know for the first connection?

 

We’re attempting to provide backup for the fiber optic cable Internet at the EOC.  Currently the only backup we have is text based e-mail over Winlink.
