I presume you all know that the 5SPHn radios run on 8-30 vDC.  I'm 
running mine on 14.2 vDC from a WestMountain RigRunner, and the current 
draw is miniscule.  My understanding for the 24 vDC wall wart supplied 
with the radio, is for voltage drop in long Cat-5 runs.
