Hello everyone,I was hoping to address the conflict with more discretion however, the primary concern that we have is that Fred Moses of the Mi6WAN has stated that they will not help us set up this system unless we give the Mi6WAN complete ownership of the equipment. So I am attempting to contact individuals who would be willing to help us if the Mi6WAN will not.
Thank you,Mike EliasK8AVJ

Hi Michael,
$20,000 is a lot of money. Here in Memphis, we've deployed 3 traditional sectorized hamwan sites, and we have 3 more points of presence with omnis and backhaul equipment. I think with that we've still spent less than half your budget. Our community involvement waxes and wanes, but we're where we are today comfortably after two years of effort. Even if we were to throw more money at the problem, I don't know that we would've accomplished our network rollout much faster (unless we had enough to hire help). It takes significant effort, especially for those who aren't familiar with the technology (WISP). It will be very important to have a core local group with this experience participating in order for your project to succeed.
I don't know what your concerns are regarding Mi6Wan, but I believe Fred and his group would be an excellent fit to help with this. We're always excited to see new HamWANs growing and happy to help them flourish. In terms of formal support, we're all volunteers, and there is no SLA. We're most active in IRC. It'd be appropriate for you to direct less structured questions on there (filling in gaps of our wiki, asking for explanations on certain design decisions, etc). We're happy to help you troubleshoot issues, but do expect to be participating along the entire way. To perform and be secure, you'll need volunteers to administer your network (and you don't want them to be entirely remote).

Or he could just work with the group who already did the design work and grant work. But that's just me.

Congratulations Michael on your project approval! It sounds like a substantial undertaking. I would suspect there would be several on the list who would be willing to lend a hand, particularly once more of the project scope is known. When you have an opportunity, if you can share some of the project details it would give folks a better idea as to where they may be able to contribute their expertise. We have a lot of people on-list with background in site analysis, coverage mapping, etc – not to mention all of the networking disciplines. Subject: [HamWAN PSDR] Future HamWan Site Hello HamWan, I apologize if I am sending this email to the wrong address. My name is Michael Elias and I am the club secretary for the Saginaw Valley Amateur Radio Association. We have recently been approved for a grant to upgrade our repeater and implement a HamWan style system. The grant was for $26,000 with $20,000 of that money allotted to the HamWan system. This is the largest project our club has ever attempted and although we are currently working with Central Michigan Emergency Network and the Mi6Wan, there is serious concern that we will not be able to complete this project. I am contacting you in advance of our monthly meeting to ask if you would be willing to help us with this project and if so, how much and what type of help we could expect from you in accomplishing this project? I understand you currently know nothing about the project or what we are trying to accomplish so I don't expect you to give specifics or details. Our club meeting is this Friday, September 2. Although the grant has been approved, our general membership still needs to vote on accepting the grant money and committing to the project. I am putting together a presentation for this meeting to answer questions and address concerns. I am trying to make this presentation as complete as possible and if you like I can send you a copy when it is complete. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing from you.Michael EliasK8AVJSVARA website www.k8dac.com
