Phil,
I'm sorry, it was my comment that started the encryption discussion and
caused the thread to go down a different path. To hopefully provide helpful
direction, my comment about limiting what uses the HamWAN link is not only
rooted in whether ham radio can use encryption or not. At an even more
fundamental level, the company which provides the primary link to the
internet for HamWAN does it with the expectation only ham radio things are
using it. Nobody should consider HamWAN a replacement for their home
internet, because that would be against the terms of service HamWAN has
with our hosting partner.
To provide a possible alternative, do you have access to a secondary site
which has a line of site to the EOC and to a HamWAN node (either Capital
Peak or another)? You might be able to link the two by putting two HamWAN
links together at this new third location.
